The Walk Kicked Off in Style

We left home about 5.40am and drove the van - decorated with the banners highlighting the 1000km walk to support the McGrath Foundation - to the MCG which we reached around 6.30am. To our surprise, the first to arrive after us was Jo, the star breast care nurse from the McGrath Foundation, followed by her colleague Giselle another breast care nurse from the Foundation. Around 40 friends and well wishers also came about 7.00AM for the flagging off ceremony. The largest group was from the 1000 steps weekly walk in Upper Ferntree Gully.

There was a photo session starting with Jo and Giselle in front of the van with banners. This was followed by separate groups of supporters, as they all wanted a photo with me to mark the occasion, as well as a group photo of everyone together, along with tea and snacks for all to enjoy.

There was a short interview with Channel 7 News, followed by a couple of speeches as part of the ceremony before holding a guard of honor to mark the start of the walk from Gate 2 (Dennis Lilee Statue) at 7.30AM.
