Finally, the wait is over. In less than nine hours, I begin the longest walk I have ever undertaken in my entire life. Tomorrow i.e. Sunday 13 November 2022 at 7:00AM, I start outside the MCG, Gate 2 near Dennis Lilly statue, the long awaited walk to the SCG. This is the moment I have been preparing for. This is what I signed up for. This is the day I have been waiting for. In fact, we all have been waiting for and this day has now arrived.
A significant number of friends and well-wishers are expected to come to the flagging off ceremony. Considering the rain forecast and being Sunday morning, abandoning the warmth of the comfortable bed and getting up early would be rather difficult for many. Thus, even a small number would be great. From the official side, two of the amazing McGrath Breast Care Nurses would be there to flag me off.
The walk stretching to almost 1,100 Kms would crisscross through various towns and different landscapes. Starting with fairly flat area that is quite different to the challenging terrain of Thredbo and Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains in Southern New South Wales. The recent rains and flood warnings add more character to challenges ahead. There are bound to be diversions to the scheduled route and there are also unwalkable sections on some roads. However, I am prepared for any eventuality.
Yesterday, we picked up the rental van that is going to be my home for the next eight weeks. This van Renault Master is sufficiently equipped to cater for our needs. The 3-berth van is going to be my support vehicle (SV) on this walk. It would initially be driven by different friends on a weekly basis until we arrive at Geehi (NSW). From there, Shekhar, our son would take over and drive it for the next four weeks until we arrive at the SCG on the opening day of the Pink Test on 4 January 2023. See Van photos provided.
We wish you all the best for your longest walk and send warm greetings from Austria. Frieda and Ludwig
