MCG - SCG Walk, Day 19

Berringama - Corryong

This would be the first time when Rohan would drive a vehicle as large as our supporting vehicle; namely, the van. He was being honest when he admitted that he had never driven something as big as this while pointing to the van. When all three of us were ready, Rohan started driving the van initially a bit hesitant for obvious reasons, but later confidently. We drove back towards Berringama and stopped at the Lucyvale turn off. I started the walk and Satyajit also followed me in single file. I made sure he was also wearing Hi-Vis so that he could be seen by other drivers. Rohan drove the van.

Sometimes Rohan walked behind me and Satyajit drove. So the father and son duo were taking turns in walking and driving. During a short break around 9:30, we had breakfast and I went to bed for a quick power nap. We resumed the walk at 10:30 and continued past the caravan park and reached the Corryong town centre at 1:30. The owner of “Legends on Hansen” Stewart Spratt had been kind enough to invite us for lunch at his restaurant. The minute you walked into the restaurant, you could feel the positive vibes. Satyajit and I had vegetarian, and Rohan chose something else that he liked. It was a delicious lunch and we all appreciated the spirit of inviting us. Thank you so much mate! You are such a great man and we are so proud to have met you. We felt honoured to take photos with Stewart. A big thank you Stewart.

We drove back to the caravan park and I went for a quick nap. When I got up, I went to have a shower and Rohan took care of the laundry. I was getting dressed in the shower room when Rohan came to tell me that there was somebody at the van to give a donation. By the time I walked back to van, it had started to rain. I introduced myself to the elderly couple who had driven from the town centre. The woman shared her story that thanks to the McGrath Foundation, her breast cancer was detected very early and the treatment followed soon after. “Otherwise, I probably would not be standing there today”, she said expressing her gratitude for the incredible work the McGrath Foundation was doing. I gave them a receipt for the cash donation they had made. It was amazing that during this walk we met so many people who shared their own experiences or of somebody they knew had gone through of having breast cancer and how much they appreciated the role of McGrath Foundation at a time when they were really desperate.

Rohan’s cooking skills combined with a spoon of ghee got us to sleep much earlier than yesterday and we all slept very well. Thank you Rohan for everything you are doing to make this walk comfortable. A big thank you! And thank you Satyajit for helping me out with driving and also for bringing along Rohan, a multi-talented help. Thank you!
